Rethinking Local-First AI Assistants: Always-On OpenClaw Runtime across Arm
Overview
Built around OpenClaw, this project integrates Telegram, Qdrant, local document RAG, browser tools and scheduled services into a local-first agent runtime with persistent memory, deterministic routing and proactive-task capability. The architecture decouples agent workflow from the inference backend, so the same application layer can connect to vLLM/Ollama on a DGX Spark and to llama.cpp on a Radxa Orion O6 Armv9 CPU. Its ecosystem value is an agent-application baseline across Arm compute configurations that builds the local-processing / external-service data boundary into the architecture.
Scope of verification
- The reference implementation validates that the OpenClaw workflow, persistent memory, local RAG, tool use and scheduled tasks can connect to two specified Arm-based inference environments; it provides no performance comparison between the two platforms.
- Local-first is not fully offline — Telegram, browser search, weather and other external tools still send necessary data to external services; multi-user isolation, credential management, high availability, auditability and production security are not covered.
