Zephyr with VS Code & West Toolchain
Overview
In Visual Studio Code, this guide uses Ac6 Workbench for Zephyr to install host tools, import the Zephyr SDK and initialize a West workspace and board configuration. Using the NXP FRDM-MCXN947 as an example, the workflow builds, compiles, flashes and debugs the `hello_world` application while inspecting RAM, ROM and binary memory usage. This integrated flow chains the Zephyr native toolchain, VS Code and the board debug runner into a consistent baseline for Arm Cortex-M development from workspace setup to target debugging.
Scope of verification
- It is a Zephyr development reference workflow on the NXP FRDM-MCXN947, validating workspace initialization, build, flash, debug and the memory report.
- Dependencies include a supported development board, a Zephyr/West workspace, the Ac6 Workbench extension, the Zephyr SDK, a compatible debug probe, board definition, vendor drivers and runner configuration.
- Scope centers on `hello_world` and toolchain bring-up; porting to other boards requires re-confirming hardware support, and it does not cover application performance, real-time behavior, power analysis, production firmware qualification or long-run hardware validation.
